Meph is correct, the most fundamental challenge I see ahead is making the CMS friendly for themes which unlike projects I build for work; Xtreme isn't an easy thing fix mainly because it's core is 10 years old and hasn't been updated much in those 10 years.

One of my goals for 2.0.9e is to rebuild the default Evo Xtreme theme which is included in the download to be responsive and demonstrate that even with an ageing system it's still possible to make things work.

There wouldn't be any SQL updates needed to in order to improve the registration process as the problem lies directly with the separation between phpBB2 and the Your Account module which is creating the less than optimal experience. I have in the past mentioned this but I'll reiterate it again that my intention was to scrap the current Your Account module and create a brand new module simply called User Account which will be 100% integrated with the original forum code but instead of classic code it will be seamless and behave in the way other major registration forums work.

The other advantage to rebuilding the Your Account module is the chance to bring forth SSO (single sign on) for Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc. which has been asked for in the past but is hard to achieve because of the way everything is structured.

For the time being we can update the process so you don't have to go through the form again but instead submits the user account and activates it automatically then takes you to your profile page, I'm heading back to work on Monday so I'll take a look when I get home but I'm pretty sure I could knock that update out pretty quick.

If all emails suddenly stopped then I would recommend you first check your spam box and if they aren't there check if the server you use has been blacklisted.

https://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid=chrome-psyapi2&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8&q=email%20blacklist%20check

If it's the latter I would advise you contact your web host so they can perform checks to ensure your email accounts are been routed correctly.

Welcome back nota,

It's been a VERY long time since I last saw you roaming the community but as I understand that was for personal reasons so I won't rub that wound.

Any who, looking forward to seeing what you whip up.

The only one in my mind is the block I built a very long time ago that has compatibility issues with newer versions of TS3, you can try it but I doubt it works.

zlib output compression will be removed from Xtreme as of 2.0.9e as GZIP compression has much better support and better compression, in your mainfile.php comment out the ini_set line which will solve the issue in the meantime.

It's been requested many times and it mostly comes down to the theme to support mobile, tablets and desktop devices not Xtreme itself, sadly because of the way the CMS was built on top of phpBB2 it makes supporting smaller devices much harder without heavily modifying core template files first.

In saying that a mobile specific theme could be built but it would take the same amount of time to get working correctly.

Just wondering SgtLegend, is there no other type of option/security but those two ways? I know about SSL, I'm not counting that in.

Sessions are the most secure method with using SSL encrypted cookies, sessions can't be manipulated like cookies can thus making it far less likely that someone has spoofed themselves as an admin as they would first need server access.

Quote:
So my question to this is if we move to the secure session's for logins and stuff like that would this have to be done for normal members who access our site as well so each time they visit they will then have to put usernames and passwords back in again? or will this just be for the admin accounts on the site?

User account's won't be affect as that is for a future discussion and one that will more than likely result in the Your Account module been scraped and replaced with a fully integrated SSO (single sign on) feature that uses permissions to authenticate admins with user account and far less redundancy caused by the module itself.

Keep in mind my decision to move forward with sessions is likely to go ahead anyway as the frameworks I used outside of Nuke rely solely on sessions which makes for a consistent and secure experience, in the future I'll also been looking into Authy (not free) or Google 2-step but they require some extra thought about process and security.

Hi guys and girls,

I know development has been well lacking but I'm trying to help coRpSE and Lonestar out whenever possible, today I come forth with a question regarding the security of the admin panel, since Nuke was built it's been based on cookie authentication which works but isn't secure unelss you have an SSL certificate and I don't like it for that fact, my question to everyone is in the poll so if you could let me know what you think and if you have any questions please ask them but at this point I'm leaning heavily towards session based authentication instead.

This can be due to many factors the most common of which are.

  1. Slow web host/server
  2. Too many images/3rd party content, especially game trackers

Without been able to see your site and not knowing who your host is it's very hard to determine the issue.

Could you please attach your profile_add_body.tpl file, I have a feeling there is a duplicate field in it.

Have you tried switching your sites default theme and then signing up/editing your profile? I've triple checked the code now and all the default themes behave the same way by getting their value from the {FACEBOOK} placeholder.

Hi Nickeado,

If you used the same password between cPanel and your site admin then that is the first mistake, if I'm reading your post correctly, I recommend 1000% you always use different and auto generated passwords either by a password manager such as 1Password which is what I use and recommend to everyone or LastPass as a free alternative.

Also PHP 5.4 won't solve anything if brute force was used, a brute force attack can be carried out against any version of PHP and any site that doesn't prevent brute force which sadly is something that still has yet to be integrated into Xtreme but a strong password usually negates the effects of an attack.

If I misread or misunderstood let me know but that's what I got from it.
