My  web  host  will  add  a  SSL  certificate  to  my  server  (for  a  fee  of  course)  but  easy  for  me,  to  get  rid  of  the  NOT  SECURE  messages  the  new  browser  versions  are  doing  now.  here  is  what  they  said  in  a  Ticket  I  submitted.

Me:  "Hello,  by  purchasing  a  SSL  certificate,  what  kind  of  intigration  might  I  expect  to  deal  with?  I  currently  use  Nuke-Evolution  Xtreme  2.0.9d  CMS."

Hosting:  "I  would  like  to  let  you  know  that  in  case  of  purchasing  SSL  certificate  you  will  also  need  to  set  up  a  forced  https  redirect.  In  case  your  CMS  will  work  with  the  rewrite  rule  set  up  in  the  .htaccess  file,  you  can  set  it  up  this  way:

Also  I  suggest  you  contacting  your  CMS  developer  in  order  to  check  whether  it  is  possible  to  set  up  https  in  the  site  URL  through  your  CMS  settings.

Please  recheck  these  options  from  your  end  and  let  us  know  whether  you  need  any  further  assistance."

Any  thoughts  about  this  are  very  welcome  before  I  try  and  do  this,  seems  the  new  browsers  may  be  deterring  people  from  signing  up  or  even  visiting  a  NON  SECURE  site.

Honestly,  I  never  tested  it  or  looked  really  into  it  because  as  the  CMS  is  not  designed  to  hold  "important"  information,  it  was  not  really  worth  people  to  pay  out  the  high  prices  for  the  SSL  certificate.  Now,  if  you  were  taking  peoples  personal  information  like  their  credit  card  info,  SSN,  full  name  +  address,  ect...,  then  yes,  having  the  SSL  certificate  is  necessary  these  days.  But  since  this  CMS  is  not  designed  with  that  in  mind  and  does  not  store  information  like  that,  (not  any  scripts  I  know  of.),  there  really  has  been  no  need  for  it  or  to  test  it.

The  warnings  are  in  place  for  those  that  are  going  to  a  site  and  will  be  purchasing  or  entering  personal  info  that  there  is  a  chance,  but  even  with  the  SSL  certificate,  there  is  still  that  chance,  just  less  of  one.  Since  the  store  modules  that  are  out  there  for  this  CMS  uses  Paypal  for  the  transactions,  even  those  don't  need  the  SSL  since  they  are  not  taking  any  of  the  info  or  handling  any  of  that,  paypal  is,  which  they  have  the  certificate  already.

So  if  you  want  to  try  it,  I  personally  don't  see  it  being  an  issue  with  the  CMS.  You  will  just  need  to  make  sure  you  update  both  the  forums  and  the  preferences  with  the  new  address.

I  have  an  SSL  Certificate  on  my  site  for  a  couple  of  reasons  and  it  works  fine.

I  had  to  put  a  re-write  rule  in  place  so  that  everything  was  directed  to  the  new  HTTPS
and  once  I  did  that  everything  was  fine.  If  you  allow  linking  to  offsite  images  etc  then
you  might  not  get  the  lock  because  of  mixed  content  on  the  site  but  you  are  still  secured
 by  the  certificate.

Exactly  what  I  was  thinking  coRpSE,  even  with  SSL  does  not  really  mean  it  is  secure,  Google  browser  started  this  mess  and  now  most  browsers  are  following  suit  and  I  feel  it  is  sending  a  bad  message  to  average  people  browsing  the  web,  even  though  50%  of  sites  do  not  have  the  S  at  the  end  of  HTTP  does  not  mean  the  site  is  insecure.  I  tested  my  site  for  security  issues  and  passed  with  flying  colors  (see  Image)

It  just  bugs  me  that  I  may  be  loosing  potential  viewers  due  to  this  new  trend.

Anyway  Shadz  If  I  may  contact  you  in  the  near  future  about  how  you  went  about  setting  it  all  up  that  would  be  great.

 Thanks  guys!
