i  was  wondering  if  anyone  had  some  knowledge  on  this.  i  would  use  phpnuke,  but  the  forums  blow.  so  we  use  IPB  instead.  i  want  to  convert  it  from  PHPNUKE  to  IPB  and  use  it  on  there  instead.  currently  only  2  clans  are  using  it,  we  have  spoke  with  both,  of  course  they  said  no.  we  did  get  help  from  one  guy  but  he  didnt  really  tell  us  what  needs  to  be  done,  just  an  overview  of  what  he  did.

I  would  have  to  say  no,  just  because  MILPACS  is  not  just  a  "forum"  addition,  it  is  actually  a  module  for  the  Nuke  CMS.  The  only  way,  would  someone  re-coding  it  to  actually  work  for  IPB,  and  you  would  have  to  ask  someone  there  to  build  it.

well  its  been  done  twice  now,  lol.  Here  is  a  response  i  got  from  someone  who  did  it  for  IPB.

While  I'm  not  going  to  do  the  work  again,  the  basics  of  what  I  did  to  convert  the  PHPNuke  MILPACS  to  IPB  MILPACS  can  more  or  less  be  summarized  in  the  following  way:

DB  access  is  abstracted  in  most  modern  CMSs  and  forums.  There  is  a  really  good  reason  for  this.  However,  that  means  you  can't  just  drag  and  drop  code  and  expect  it  to  work.  So,  step  1  will  be  to  unabstract  the  DB  access.  Is  this  overall  a  bad  security  decision?  Sure  is.  Is  it  going  to  help  you  considerably  when  you  need  to  reabstract?  Definitely.

PHPNuke  used  a  module  function,  in  that  it  called  something  like  site.tld/?module=milpacs&function=FunctionToDo  (  if  I  remember  right  ).  Therefor,  I  created  a  distinct  page  for  each  module  and  function.  e.g.,  AddSoldier.php,  EditSoldier.php,  DelSoldier.php,  etc.  By  making  each  function  its  own  page  and  completely  independent  of  each  other  page,  I  could  remove  it  completely  from  phpNuke.  Once  all  of  the  phpNuke  dependency  was  gone  and  it  was  functioning  as  it's  own  (  albeit  insecure  and  unstable  beast  ),  it  was  now  ready  for  IPB.

Migration  of  pages  into  IP.Content.  Getting  those  independent  pages  into  IP.C  is  exactly  how  MILPACS  works  here  at  7Cav.  But,  for  everything  that  is  secure  and  safe,  do  not  skip  the  last  step:

Reabstraction  of  PHP  into  IPB  API.  There  are  plenty  of  pages  that  document  how  to  abstract  SQL  in  IPB.  It's  kind  of  verbose  and  looks  weird,  but  they've  done  a  great  job  of  making  it  work  and  making  it  secure.  It  does  all  of  the  input  sanitation  for  you,  which  is  worth  the  abstraction  in  and  of  itself.
This  took  a  long  time  to  do.  If  I  had  to  estimate  the  number  of  man  hours,  I'd  say  about  200  hours.  This  is  also  because  I  was  just  learning  PHP,  mySQL,  PHPNuke,  and  IPB.  If  I  had  to  do  it  again,  I  could  probably  do  it  faster,  but  it's  unfair  to  assume  that  knowledge.

I  do  not  have  the  time  to  dedicate  to  this  kind  of  work  again,  but  I  do  hope  this  gives  a  high  level  overview  of  what  has  to  be  done.  It's  a  pain  in  the  Butt,  but  it's  a  good  product.

Basically,  like  he  stated,  he  had  to  do  almost  a  re-write  of  it,  taking  what  was  already  there  and  had  to  re-write  it  to  work  for  him.  You  would  need  to  find  someone  that  uses  IPB  or  makes  mods  for  IPB  to  see  if  they  can  do  it  or  try  getting  it  from  them.

The  question  your  asking  should  have  not  been  asked  here,  but  with  IPB.  We  are  not  IPB  nor  make  anything  for  it.
