 i  recently  had  a  few  of  our  members  email  me  saying  they  were  getting  a  "403  forbidden"  error  when  trying  to  access  our  site,  i  went  straight  to  the  .htaccess  file  and  poked  around  a  bit,  nothing  looked  out  of  place  (to  my  untrained  eye  anyway)  but  i  had  added  some  bans  into  NukeSentinel  so  began  with  the  deny  from  area.  i  began  commenting  out  the  lines  one  by  one  until  access  was  restored.  to  cut  a  long  story  short  i  got  it  down  to  3  deny  from  lines  that  appear  to  cause  the  issue,  as  if  i  took  the  "#"  off  the  start  of  the  line  access  was  blocked  again.  nothing  looked  different  from  others,  but  what  did  work  in  the  end  was  taking  the  CIDRs  of  the  end  of  the  3  lines  in  question.

 my  question  is,  does  this  make  any  difference  to  security?  and  is  it  normal  to  the  the  CIDRs  on  the  end  as  not  all  of  them  do.

 here  is  a  sample  from  the  .htaccess  file  that  did  not  work:(the  colored  lines  is  what  i  changed)

 That  is  in  place  if  you  are  blocking  a  range  of  IP's  see  below:

Code:
#CHINA  BLOCKS
 <Limit>
 order  allow,deny
 deny  from  1.0.1.0/24
 deny  from  213.242.0.0/18
 deny  from  217.149.16.0/20
 deny  from  217.198.0.0/20
 deny  from  217.198.80.0/20
 deny  from  217.198.160.0/19
 deny  from  217.199.208.0/20
 deny  from  217.199.240.0/20
 allow  from  all
 </LIMIT>

 You  will  see  from  mine  I  am  blocking  certain  IP's  from  China,  this  works  fine  for  me.

 If  banned  through  Nuke  Sentinel  then  it  will  automatically  set  the  .htaccess  file  bans  out
 for  how  it  is  needed.  It  would  seem  that  you  probably  banned  the  users  from  the  site  as  during  banning
 an  entire  range  of  IP's
