PostPosted: Sat Dec 31, 2016 12:01 pm Post subject: No icon Looking to replace my PHP-Nuke system Reply with quote

 Hello,

My  site  uses  PHP-Nuke  for  one  reason  and  one  reason  only:  a  chat  module  (called  ClearChat)  that  is  superior  to  anything  out  there.   If  not  for  that  module,  my  forums  would  not  be  based  on  Nuke.

Each  year,  around  this  time,  I  look  for  ways  to  get  away  from  Nuke  but  not  lose  the  features  that  this  chat  module  gives  me  and  my  customers.   Each  year,  I  come  up  empty.   Other  chat  systems  just  don't  give  me  the  controls  I  require  as  administrator  and  give  my  customers  the  features  that  they  crave.

The  developer  of  ClearChat  has  long  since  stopped  working  on  it  (it  was  perfect,  except  for  needing  Nuke).   PHP-Nuke  itself  is  basically  dead  too.   My  web  host  provider  is  not  happy  that  I'm  using  such  old  code  and  are  getting  ready  to  drop  support.

My  question  here  is  this:  Does  Nuke  Evolution  support  modules  that  were  written  for  PHP-Nuke?

 Thank  you,

For  the  most  part,  phpnuke  modules  can  be  used  on  both  Evo  and  RavenNuke  with  some  modifications,  (sometimes).  But  selecting  either  RN  or  Evo  is  going  to  depend  on  what  you  need  it  for.  Evo  is  great  for  the  gaming  community  where  RN  is  close  to  what  PhpNuke  is.  I  like  to  say  it's  more  of  a  professional  system  or  business  like  than  gaming.  Both  systems  are  hands  down  better  than  basic  PhpNuke.

But,  as  for  that  specific  module,  I  can't  say,  never  used  it.

As  coRpSE  said,  Evo  is  still  Nuke  at  its  core,  So  if  the  module  does  not  work  on  this  CMS  it  may  only  need  slight  modification  to  make  it  work  again,  I  suggest  download  Nuke  Evolution  and  testing  the  module  in  a  sub-domain  using  this  CMS.

If  you  encounter  any  problem,  Let  us  know,  Also  please  provide  a  link  to  you're  test  site  that  we  may  see  the  errors  in  person,  Sometimes  this  makes  it  a  lot  easier  to  fix  Smile

Hey  Tjoe70s,  I  downloaded  and  checked  out  the  ClearChat  module  and  its  code  is  old,  uses  a  lot  of...  eregi,  that  and  the  mysql  code  needs  changing  as  well.  Getting  it  upgraded  to  work  for  Evolution-Xtreme  would  require  a  lot  of  work  and  testing.

I  am  going  to  see  what  I  can  do  with  it  and  can  not  promise  anything,  ok.

Just  a  quick  glance  at  this,  I  think  the  system  needs  a  lot  of  work.  I  am  looking  at  it  and  instead  of  using  the  global  for  $db  connect,  I  see  it  calls  on  the  DB  information  using  mysql_connect.  Overall,  most  of  this  stuff  can  be  simplified  using  the  pre-existing  info  from  the  globals  instead  of  how  it  is.  Heck,  probably  work  better  as  well.
